Accessioning Officer

The Accessioning Officer will be responsible for receiving samples, verifying patient and test details, registering samples, barcoding, sorting, and dispatching specimens to laboratory departments. This requires accuracy, basic computer knowledge, sample safety awareness, and strong coordination with collection and lab teams.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Receive samples from collection centers, phlebotomists, and logistics teams.
• Verify patient details, sample type, barcode, and test requisition forms.
• Register samples accurately in LIS or laboratory software.
• Sort, label, and dispatch samples to appropriate testing departments.
• Identify sample rejection reasons and report discrepancies to seniors.
• Maintain accessioning records, sample logs, and pending sample trackers.
• Coordinate with collection centers for missing details or sample issues.
• Follow biosafety, infection control, and sample handling protocols.
• Prioritize urgent samples for quick processing.
• Maintain accuracy in data entry and sample labeling.
• Keep accessioning area clean and organized.
• Support smooth pre-analytical laboratory operations.
