Consultant Ophthalmologist

The Consultant Ophthalmologist will be responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing patients with eye diseases, vision problems, ocular infections, injuries, and ophthalmic emergencies. This requires strong clinical knowledge, patient counselling skills, diagnostic accuracy, and coordination with optometrists, nurses, OT staff, and hospital departments. The candidate will provide ethical, evidence-based, and patient-centered ophthalmology care.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Examine patients with eye complaints and provide accurate ophthalmic diagnosis.
• Perform slit lamp examination, fundus evaluation, refraction review, and IOP assessment.
• Diagnose and manage cataract, glaucoma, dry eye, infections, injuries, and refractive conditions.
• Review OCT, visual field, fundus imaging, biometry, and other diagnostic reports.
• Prescribe medicines, eye drops, glasses, investigations, and treatment plans as required.
• Provide OPD consultation, emergency eye care, and follow-up management.
• Counsel patients regarding diagnosis, treatment options, surgery, and follow-up care.
• Coordinate with optometrists, counsellors, nurses, OT, pharmacy, and front office teams.
• Perform minor ophthalmic procedures as per expertise and hospital protocol.
• Maintain accurate clinical notes, prescriptions, consent records, and treatment documentation.
• Follow infection control, patient safety, ethical practice, and hospital clinical protocols.
• Support eye camps, screening programs, patient education, and quality improvement activities.
• Identify complex cases and refer to subspecialty ophthalmologists when required.
• Ensure timely patient care while maintaining professional communication and empathy.
• Deliver safe, compassionate, and evidence-based ophthalmology services.
