Job Description

The Phaco and Refractive Surgeon will be responsible for evaluating cataract and refractive surgery patients, performing phacoemulsification, refractive procedures, pre-operative assessment, post-operative care, and visual outcome monitoring. This requires strong ophthalmic surgical expertise, diagnostic interpretation, lens planning knowledge, patient counselling, and coordination with optometry, OT, counselling, and clinical teams to deliver safe and high-quality surgical eye care.


Roles & Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patients for cataract, refractive errors, and surgical suitability.
  • Perform phacoemulsification, cataract surgery, and refractive procedures as per clinical expertise.
  • Assess lens options, ocular condition, visual requirements, and surgical risk factors.
  • Interpret biometry, corneal topography, pachymetry, IOP, fundus evaluation, and diagnostic reports.
  • Counsel patients regarding cataract surgery, lens choices, refractive procedures, risks, and recovery.
  • Coordinate with optometrists, counsellors, OT staff, anesthetists, nurses, and clinical teams.
  • Provide pre-operative evaluation, surgical planning, and post-operative follow-up care.
  • Manage cataract or refractive surgery-related complications with timely clinical action.
  • Maintain accurate operative notes, consent records, case sheets, and discharge documentation.
  • Monitor visual outcomes, healing progress, patient satisfaction, and treatment response.
  • Follow surgical safety checklist, infection control, sterilization, and hospital protocols.
  • Support refractive screening, patient education, and surgical counselling activities.
  • Participate in surgical audits, case reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Guide junior staff in cataract and refractive workup preparation.
  • Deliver safe, ethical, evidence-based, and patient-focused surgical ophthalmology care.
