Cataract Surgeon - Ophthalmologist

The Cataract Surgeon - Ophthalmologist will be responsible for evaluating cataract patients, planning surgery, performing cataract procedures, managing pre-operative and post-operative care, and ensuring excellent visual outcomes. This requires strong surgical expertise, diagnostic accuracy, patient counselling, lens selection knowledge, and coordination with optometry, OT, nursing, and counselling teams to deliver safe cataract services.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Evaluate cataract patients and determine surgical suitability.
• Perform cataract surgeries including phacoemulsification as per clinical standards.
• Assess lens options, ocular status, visual needs, and surgical risk factors.
• Interpret biometry, slit lamp findings, IOP, fundus evaluation, and diagnostic reports.
• Counsel patients regarding cataract procedure, lens options, risks, recovery, and follow-up.
• Coordinate with optometrists, counsellors, OT staff, anesthetists, and nursing teams.
• Provide pre-operative assessment and post-operative follow-up care.
• Manage cataract-related complications and ensure timely clinical intervention.
• Maintain operative notes, consent records, case sheets, and discharge documentation.
• Monitor visual outcomes, healing, patient satisfaction, and treatment response.
• Follow surgical safety checklist, infection control, sterilization, and hospital protocols.
• Support cataract screening camps, awareness activities, and surgical planning.
• Participate in clinical audits, surgical outcome reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Guide junior staff in cataract patient workup and pre-surgical coordination.
• Deliver ethical, safe, and patient-focused cataract care.
