Glucoma Surgeon

The Glaucoma Surgeon will be responsible for diagnosing, treating, and surgically managing glaucoma, ocular hypertension, and optic nerve-related eye disorders. This requires strong ophthalmology expertise, glaucoma diagnostic skills, laser and surgical treatment knowledge, patient counselling ability, and long-term follow-up management. The candidate will help prevent vision loss through early detection, accurate treatment planning, and evidence-based glaucoma care.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Diagnose and manage glaucoma, ocular hypertension, and optic nerve-related eye conditions.
• Perform detailed glaucoma evaluation including IOP measurement, gonioscopy, optic nerve assessment, OCT, and visual field testing.
• Plan medical, laser, or surgical treatment based on disease severity and patient condition.
• Perform glaucoma laser procedures and glaucoma surgeries as per expertise and hospital protocol.
• Monitor disease progression, medication response, side effects, and visual outcomes.
• Counsel patients regarding chronic glaucoma care, medication compliance, surgery options, and follow-up importance.
• Coordinate with optometrists, diagnostic technicians, counsellors, OT staff, and ophthalmology teams.
• Identify high-risk patients and ensure timely review, treatment adjustment, and clinical intervention.
• Provide pre-operative assessment and post-operative care for glaucoma surgery patients.
• Maintain accurate clinical notes, investigation reports, consent forms, procedure records, and follow-up documentation.
• Follow surgical safety, infection control, sterilization, and patient safety protocols.
• Support glaucoma screening camps, awareness programs, and preventive eye care activities.
• Participate in clinical audits, case discussions, surgical outcome reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Guide junior doctors, optometrists, and clinical staff in glaucoma workup and documentation.
• Deliver ethical, evidence-based, and patient-centered glaucoma care to protect long-term vision.
