Medical Officer- Medical Gastro

The Medical Officer – Medical Gastro will be responsible for managing inpatients and assisting in outpatient and procedural care of gastroenterology patients. This requires strong clinical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to manage acute and chronic gastrointestinal conditions in coordination with senior consultants.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Provide continuous medical care and supervision to gastroenterology inpatients and ward patients.
• Assist consultants in diagnosing and managing gastrointestinal and liver-related disorders.
• Conduct detailed patient assessments including history taking, physical examinations, and clinical evaluation.
• Monitor patients with conditions such as liver disease, GI bleeding, pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease, and infections.
• Assist in performing and managing procedures such as endoscopy and colonoscopy support activities.
• Manage emergency gastroenterology cases including GI bleeding and acute abdominal conditions.
• Order and interpret diagnostic investigations including blood tests, imaging, and endoscopic findings.
• Administer medications and supportive treatments as prescribed by consultants.
• Monitor patient progress and promptly report critical changes to senior doctors.
• Assist in admission, transfer, and discharge planning of gastroenterology patients.
• Maintain accurate, detailed, and confidential medical records and documentation.
• Participate in ward rounds and multidisciplinary case discussions.
• Provide pre- and post-procedure care for gastroenterology patients.
• Educate patients and families regarding disease management, diet, and lifestyle modifications.
• Ensure infection control practices are strictly followed, especially in endoscopy and ward settings.
• Coordinate with nursing staff, endoscopy team, and other departments for seamless patient care.
• Ensure timely escalation of critical cases to senior consultants.
• Assist in managing chronic liver disease patients including cirrhosis and hepatitis cases.
• Support pain management and symptomatic care for gastroenterology patients.
• Handle medico-legal documentation and clinical reporting accurately.
• Work in rotational shifts including night duties and emergency coverage.
• Stay updated with advancements in gastroenterology and hepatology care.
• Ensure patient safety, comfort, and ethical clinical practice at all times.
• Contribute to improving clinical outcomes and service quality in the department.
