Endoscopy Technician

The Endoscopy Technician will be responsible for preparing endoscopy suites, assisting during procedures, handling endoscopic equipment, and ensuring proper sterilization and maintenance. This requires technical expertise, precision, and strong adherence to infection control protocols in a clinical gastroenterology setting.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Prepare and set up endoscopy rooms prior to procedures, ensuring all equipment and instruments are ready.
• Assist gastroenterologists during diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures such as EGD, colonoscopy, and ERCP support.
• Ensure proper functioning and readiness of endoscopy equipment and accessories.
• Clean, disinfect, and sterilize endoscopes and related instruments as per infection control guidelines.
• Handle and operate endoscopic equipment safely and efficiently during procedures.
• Assist in patient preparation including positioning, monitoring, and explaining procedure support.
• Monitor patient vital signs during procedures in coordination with nursing staff.
• Ensure proper documentation of procedures, equipment usage, and sterilization records.
• Maintain strict adherence to aseptic techniques and infection prevention protocols.
• Perform leak testing, manual cleaning, and high-level disinfection of endoscopes.
• Coordinate with CSSD and OT teams for instrument sterilization and availability.
• Assist in biopsy specimen handling and labeling for laboratory processing.
• Maintain inventory of endoscopy consumables, accessories, and emergency supplies.
• Ensure proper storage and handling of endoscopic equipment to prevent damage.
• Support emergency endoscopic procedures such as GI bleeding management.
• Report equipment malfunction or technical issues to biomedical engineering team.
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of endoscopy suite and equipment.
• Assist in patient transfer before and after procedures safely.
• Follow hospital protocols, safety standards, and regulatory guidelines strictly.
• Participate in quality control checks and infection control audits.
• Support scheduling and coordination of endoscopy procedures.
• Educate patients on pre- and post-procedure instructions when required.
• Work closely with gastroenterologists, nurses, and support staff for smooth workflow.
• Ensure compliance with biomedical waste management protocols.
• Contribute to maintaining high standards of patient safety and procedural efficiency in the gastro department.
