Technician-CSSD

The CSSD Technician will be responsible for handling sterilization processes, managing surgical instrument sets, and ensuring strict adherence to infection control protocols. This requires technical knowledge, precision, and a strong understanding of sterilization procedures in a hospital environment.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Collect, receive, and sort used surgical instruments and medical devices for decontamination.
• Perform cleaning, washing, and manual/automated decontamination of instruments using approved methods.
• Operate sterilization equipment such as autoclaves, ETO sterilizers, and plasma sterilizers.
• Ensure proper loading, monitoring, and unloading of sterilization cycles as per protocols.
• Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and damage before and after sterilization.
• Assemble and pack surgical instrument sets according to procedure requirements.
• Label and document all sterilized packs for traceability and record-keeping.
• Maintain strict adherence to infection control and aseptic techniques at all times.
• Distribute sterile instruments and sets to operation theatres, wards, and other departments.
• Ensure proper storage of sterile items in designated sterile storage areas.
• Maintain logs of sterilization cycles, equipment usage, and maintenance records.
• Monitor sterilization parameters including temperature, pressure, and cycle time accuracy.
• Report equipment malfunction or deviations in sterilization processes immediately.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and regulatory guidelines.
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of CSSD work areas and equipment.
• Follow proper biomedical waste segregation and disposal procedures.
• Coordinate with OT and nursing staff for instrument requirements and turnaround times.
• Assist in inventory management of surgical instruments and sterilization consumables.
• Participate in quality control checks and infection prevention audits.
• Ensure timely availability of sterile sets for scheduled and emergency surgeries.
• Support implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) in CSSD operations.
• Work in coordination with biomedical engineering team for equipment maintenance.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in handling hospital materials.
• Participate in training programs on sterilization techniques and infection control.
• Contribute to maintaining a safe, sterile, and infection-free hospital environment.
