Job Description

The Intensivist is responsible for managing critically ill patients in ICU and high-dependency areas. The requires expertise in life support, ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, emergency stabilization, and multidisciplinary critical care. The intensivist will coordinate with consultants, nurses, respiratory therapists, and emergency teams to deliver safe, timely, and evidence-based intensive care services.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Manage critically ill patients admitted to ICU or critical care units.
  • Provide advanced clinical care for sepsis, shock, respiratory failure, cardiac emergencies, and multi-organ dysfunction.
  • Supervise ventilator management, oxygen therapy, NIV, and airway support.
  • Monitor hemodynamic status, lab parameters, fluid balance, and organ function.
  • Conduct ICU rounds and update treatment plans based on patient condition.
  • Coordinate with specialists for multidisciplinary critical care management.
  • Respond to code blue, rapid response, and emergency deterioration calls.
  • Perform or supervise critical care procedures as per competency and protocols.
  • Ensure accurate ICU documentation, progress notes, consent forms, and discharge summaries.
  • Communicate patient status, prognosis, and care plans to families with empathy.
  • Guide ICU nurses and junior doctors in patient monitoring and care delivery.
  • Maintain infection control, antimicrobial stewardship, and patient safety standards.
  • Participate in ICU audits, mortality reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure ethical decision-making in critical care and end-of-life discussions.
