Consultant - Cardiac Surgery

The Consultant - Cardiac Surgery is responsible for evaluating and managing patients requiring surgical treatment for heart and major vascular conditions. The includes pre-operative assessment, surgical planning, intraoperative care, and post-operative follow-up. The consultant will work closely with cardiologists, anaesthetists, intensivists, and nursing teams to ensure safe cardiac surgical outcomes and high-quality patient care.

Role & Responsibilities:

• Evaluate patients requiring cardiac surgical intervention and provide expert clinical opinions.
• Plan and perform cardiac surgery procedures as per qualification, experience, and hospital protocols.
• Conduct pre-operative assessment and risk evaluation for cardiac surgery patients.
• Coordinate with cardiology, anaesthesia, ICU, and perfusion teams for comprehensive care.
• Monitor post-operative recovery and manage surgical complications when required.
• Review diagnostic reports including angiography, echocardiography, CT scans, and cardiac investigations.
• Provide emergency surgical support for critical cardiac cases.
• Counsel patients and families regarding procedure, risks, benefits, and recovery expectations.
• Ensure strict compliance with surgical safety, sterile practices, and infection control protocols.
• Maintain accurate operative notes, clinical documentation, and discharge summaries.
• Participate in cardiac case discussions and multidisciplinary treatment planning.
• Supervise junior doctors and surgical support staff.
