Consultant - Surgical Oncology

The Consultant - Surgical Oncology is responsible for surgical evaluation and treatment of cancer patients. The includes cancer diagnosis support, surgical planning, operative care, post-operative follow-up, and multidisciplinary coordination with medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, and radiology teams. The consultant will provide safe, evidence-based cancer surgery with compassionate counseling and high standards of documentation.

Role & Responsibilities:

• Evaluate patients requiring surgical treatment for cancer and related conditions.
• Plan and perform oncology surgeries as per expertise and hospital protocols.
• Coordinate with medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, radiology, and ICU teams.
• Review biopsy reports, imaging studies, staging reports, and tumor board recommendations.
• Explain surgical options, risks, benefits, and recovery expectations to patients and families.
• Conduct pre-operative preparation and post-operative patient management.
• Monitor wound healing, complications, pain control, and recovery progress.
• Maintain accurate operative notes, clinical documentation, and discharge summaries.
• Participate in tumor board meetings and multidisciplinary cancer care planning.
• Ensure compliance with surgical safety, sterile technique, and infection control standards.
• Provide follow-up care and surveillance planning after cancer surgery.
• Support palliative surgical decision-making when required.
• Supervise junior doctors and surgical support staff.
• Deliver ethical, compassionate, and patient-centered oncology care.
