Consultant - Neurosurgery

The Consultant - Neurosurgery is responsible for evaluating and surgically managing diseases and injuries of the brain, spine, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves. The includes emergency neurosurgical care, operative planning, post-operative management, and coordination with neurology, ICU, anaesthesia, and rehabilitation teams. The consultant will ensure safe surgical practice, accurate documentation, and patient-centered care.

Role & Responsibilities:

• Assess patients with neurosurgical conditions involving the brain, spine, and nervous system.
• Plan and perform neurosurgical procedures as per expertise and hospital protocols.
• Manage emergency cases such as head injury, brain hemorrhage, spinal trauma, and raised intracranial pressure.
• Review imaging studies including CT, MRI, angiography, and spine scans.
• Provide pre-operative counseling and surgical risk explanation to patients and families.
• Monitor post-operative recovery and manage complications when required.
• Coordinate with ICU, anaesthesia, neurology, radiology, and rehabilitation teams.
• Conduct inpatient rounds and follow-up assessments for neurosurgical patients.
• Maintain detailed operative notes, clinical records, and discharge summaries.
• Ensure compliance with surgical safety, infection control, and sterile procedure standards.
• Participate in trauma response and emergency surgical decision-making.
• Supervise residents, junior doctors, and surgical assistants.
• Support quality improvement and clinical audit activities.
