Job Description
The Emergency Medical Officer is responsible for providing first-line medical assessment, stabilization, and treatment for patients arriving in the emergency department. The includes triage support, emergency care, documentation, coordination with consultants, and patient monitoring. The officer must act quickly, follow hospital protocols, and ensure safe handover for admission, referral, or discharge.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Assess patients presenting to the emergency department and identify urgent care needs.
- Support triage, initial diagnosis, stabilization, and emergency treatment.
- Manage common emergencies such as fever, injury, chest pain, breathlessness, seizures, and trauma.
- Provide basic life support and assist in advanced resuscitation when required.
- Order and follow up on emergency investigations under clinical protocols.
- Coordinate with consultants, nurses, ICU, radiology, laboratory, and admission teams.
- Monitor patient vitals and clinical response during emergency care.
- Prepare accurate emergency notes, prescriptions, referrals, and handover documentation.
- Assist in procedures such as wound care, suturing, IV access, catheterization, and basic emergency interventions.
- Communicate patient condition and next steps clearly to relatives.
- Ensure timely admission, referral, transfer, or discharge decisions as advised.
- Follow infection control, patient safety, and emergency department protocols.
- Maintain readiness of emergency equipment, medicines, and documentation.
- Work calmly and efficiently in high-pressure emergency situations.
