Consultant-Medical Oncology

The Consultant – Medical Oncology will be responsible for delivering advanced oncology care including chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and supportive care. This requires strong clinical expertise, multidisciplinary collaboration, and a patient-centric approach to ensure optimal treatment outcomes and quality of life for cancer patients.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and manage a wide range of malignancies including solid tumors and hematological cancers.
• Develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical evaluation, staging, and evidence-based protocols.
• Administer and supervise chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and hormonal treatments.
• Monitor patients for treatment response, side effects, and complications, and modify treatment plans accordingly.
• Provide pre-treatment counseling and obtain informed consent from patients and families.
• Manage oncology emergencies such as febrile neutropenia, tumor lysis syndrome, and spinal cord compression.
• Collaborate with surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, and radiologists for multidisciplinary care.
• Participate in tumor boards and multidisciplinary case discussions.
• Oversee inpatient and outpatient oncology services and ensure continuity of care.
• Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records, treatment plans, and progress notes.
• Ensure adherence to oncology protocols, safety standards, and infection control practices.
• Provide supportive and palliative care to improve patient comfort and quality of life.
• Educate patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, side effects, and prognosis.
• Supervise and guide junior doctors, residents, and oncology nursing staff.
• Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement programs, and accreditation processes.
• Stay updated with advancements in oncology treatments, clinical trials, and research.
• Contribute to academic activities including teaching, training, and publications.
• Ensure safe handling and administration of cytotoxic drugs as per guidelines.
• Monitor and report adverse drug reactions and treatment-related complications.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Handle medico-legal cases with appropriate documentation and adherence to legal guidelines.
• Participate in cancer awareness programs, screening camps, and community outreach initiatives.
• Promote patient-centric care with empathy, professionalism, and ethical practice.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times.
• Contribute to the growth and development of oncology services within the hospital.
