Consultant - Surgical Oncology

The Consultant – Surgical Oncology will be responsible for managing patients with various types of cancers requiring surgical intervention. This involves pre-operative evaluation, surgical management, and post-operative care, along with close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive cancer treatment.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and manage a wide range of cancers requiring surgical intervention, including solid tumors.
• Perform complex oncological surgeries such as tumor resections, organ-preserving surgeries, and radical procedures.
• Conduct thorough pre-operative evaluations, staging, and treatment planning.
• Provide detailed counseling to patients and families regarding diagnosis, surgical options, risks, and outcomes.
• Obtain informed consent and ensure ethical and legal compliance in all surgical procedures.
• Ensure safe intra-operative management with adherence to surgical and oncological protocols.
• Oversee post-operative care, monitor recovery, and manage complications effectively.
• Collaborate with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, and pathologists for multidisciplinary care.
• Participate in tumor boards and multidisciplinary case discussions.
• Maintain accurate and comprehensive clinical documentation, surgical notes, and patient records.
• Ensure adherence to infection control practices, patient safety standards, and quality guidelines.
• Handle emergency oncological surgical cases when required.
• Supervise and mentor junior doctors, residents, and surgical teams.
• Participate in clinical audits, morbidity and mortality meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Stay updated with advancements in surgical oncology techniques and technologies.
• Contribute to academic activities including teaching, training, and research.
