Consultant - Rheumatology

Job Description:

The Consultant – Rheumatology will be responsible for delivering comprehensive care for diseases affecting joints, muscles, and connective tissues. This requires strong clinical expertise, accurate diagnosis, and a multidisciplinary approach to ensure optimal patient outcomes and long-term disease management.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and manage a wide spectrum of rheumatologic conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, spondyloarthritis, gout, and vasculitis.
• Conduct detailed patient evaluations including medical history, physical examination, and clinical assessments.
• Interpret laboratory investigations, imaging studies, and immunological tests to establish accurate diagnoses.
• Develop individualized treatment plans including pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
• Prescribe and monitor medications such as DMARDs, biologics, corticosteroids, and immunosuppressants.
• Monitor disease progression, treatment response, and medication side effects regularly.
• Provide patient education on disease management, lifestyle modifications, and medication adherence.
• Collaborate with orthopedicians, physiotherapists, nephrologists, and other specialists for comprehensive care.
• Manage outpatient (OPD) and inpatient (IPD) rheumatology services efficiently.
• Handle acute rheumatologic emergencies and flare-ups with timely intervention.
• Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, clinical notes, and treatment plans.
• Ensure adherence to infection control practices, patient safety standards, and clinical guidelines.
• Supervise and guide junior doctors, residents, and nursing staff.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, case discussions, and clinical audits.
• Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and accreditation processes.
• Stay updated with advancements in rheumatology treatments, biologics, and research.
• Participate in academic activities including teaching, training, and publications.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and prognosis.
• Promote early diagnosis and preventive care for chronic rheumatologic diseases.
• Participate in health camps, awareness programs, and community outreach initiatives.
• Handle medico-legal cases with appropriate documentation and compliance.
• Ensure cost-effective utilization of healthcare resources while maintaining quality care.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times.
• Contribute to the development and growth of rheumatology services within the hospital.
