Junior – Consultant – Obstetrics & Gynaecology

The Junior Consultant – Obstetrics & Gynaecology will be involved in patient evaluation, diagnosis, treatment planning, and clinical procedures. This requires strong clinical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to manage both routine and emergency cases effectively in a hospital setting.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Inform and coordinate with the concerned consultant immediately upon patient admission.
• Perform and document detailed patient history and physical examinations.
• Formulate differential diagnoses based on clinical findings.
• Develop and document initial and ongoing plans of care as per clinical protocols.
• Follow labor room protocols and maintain checklist-based patient management.
• Monitor patient progress and update daily treatment plans accordingly.
• Write accurate daily progress notes and maintain proper clinical documentation.
• Obtain and document informed consent for procedures and treatments.
• Conduct preoperative assessments and prepare patients for procedures.
• Order appropriate investigations and interpret results effectively.
• Analyze laboratory reports, imaging studies, and hemodynamic parameters in critical cases.
• Prescribe medications, therapies, and treatment plans as required.
• Order and manage blood transfusions and blood products when necessary.
• Prepare detailed discharge summaries and counsel patients on post-discharge care.
• Maintain duty reports, registers, and ensure proper handover and takeover during shifts.
• Assist in completing insurance documentation and ensure consultant approvals.
• Perform pelvic examinations and Pap smear tests.
• Handle emergency situations including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
• Manage artificial feeding methods and nutritional support for patients.
• Perform basic procedures such as nasogastric intubation and urethral catheterization.
• Assist and support in labor management and delivery procedures.
• Provide care for antenatal, postnatal, and high-risk pregnancy cases.
• Ensure adherence to infection control and patient safety protocols.
• Maintain confidentiality and uphold patient rights and ethical practices.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams for comprehensive patient care.
• Participate in clinical audits, training programs, and continuous learning.
• Work in rotational shifts and handle emergency/on-call duties.
• Stay updated with advancements in obstetrics and gynecology practices.
• Demonstrate professionalism, empathy, and strong communication skills.
