Staff Nurse / Senior Staff Nurse – Ward

The Staff Nurse / Senior Staff Nurse – Ward will provide comprehensive nursing care to patients, including pre-operative, post-operative, obstetric, and general ward care. This requires strong clinical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to manage patient care efficiently in a dynamic hospital environment.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Prepare individualized nursing care plans based on patient condition, comfort, and treatment requirements.
• Act as a Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for non-medical services to ensure timely patient support.
• Conduct room orientation for all newly admitted patients.
• Complete nursing assessment within defined timelines of patient admission.
• Review doctor’s orders, notes, and drug charts and implement accordingly.
• Monitor and record vital signs accurately and promptly.
• Accompany consultants during rounds and execute medical instructions efficiently.
• Ensure all investigations are conducted on time and reports are available for review.
• Assist doctors in procedures, dressings, and clinical rounds.
• Coordinate procurement of blood and blood products and monitor transfusion reactions.
• Accompany patients for diagnostic procedures and special investigations.
• Prepare patients for labor, delivery, and surgical procedures.
• Complete transfer and pre-operative formalities as per hospital policies.
• Provide pre-operative and post-operative care including cesarean sections and other surgeries.
• Deliver specialized care in obstetrics and gynecology, including pregnancy and neonatal care.
• Monitor fetal health using Cardio Toco Graph (CTG) and understand APGAR scoring.
• Manage obstetric emergencies such as postpartum hemorrhage and complications.
• Handle IV fluids, medication calculations, and drug administration accurately.
• Assist in normal deliveries and neonatal care including feeding and hygiene.
• Maintain strict aseptic techniques in all patient care procedures.
• Handle newborn care including feeding preparation and baby bathing.
• Maintain accurate and updated medical and nursing records.
• Raise and manage pharmacy indents through HIS and ensure proper stock management.
• Administer medications as per the “10 Rights of Medication” and hospital policies.
• Monitor patients for adverse drug reactions and report incidents promptly.
• Ensure compliance with policies on patient medications and self-administration.
• Adhere to NABH and Nursing Excellence standards.
• Maintain high standards of personal, patient, and environmental hygiene.
• Follow infection control protocols including hand hygiene and safety measures.
• Ensure proper handling of narcotics and high-risk medications.
• Participate in audits, quality initiatives, and continuous improvement programs.
• Provide patient and family education regarding treatment and care.
• Maintain confidentiality and uphold patient rights at all times.
• Work in rotational shifts and handle emergency situations effectively.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams for seamless patient care.
• Demonstrate professionalism, empathy, and a patient-centric approach.
• Contribute to improving patient outcomes and overall healthcare quality.
