Job Description
The Pharmacist / Senior Pharmacist will be responsible for prescription review, medication dispensing, inventory management, and regulatory compliance. This requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Liaise with doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals to ensure safe and effective drug therapy.
- Review prescriptions for accuracy, dosage, and potential drug interactions.
- Perform clinical and accuracy checks before dispensing medicines.
- Dispense and supply medications as per prescriptions and hospital guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with Medicines Ethics and Practice, SOPs, and safety protocols.
- Maintain proper storage, labeling, and handling of medicines.
- Receive, store, and issue controlled drugs as per hospital policies.
- Handle narcotics and maintain detailed documentation as per legal requirements.
- Monitor stock levels and ensure availability of essential medicines.
- Prepare purchase orders (P.O.) and coordinate procurement of medicines.
- Generate and maintain Goods Receipt Notes (GRN) for received supplies.
- Process returns of expired or near-expiry medicines.
- Arrange non-available medicines from external vendors when required.
- Maintain accurate records of inventory, dispensing, and billing transactions.
- Conduct periodic and quarterly stock verification and audits.
- Coordinate with finance for cash handling and reconciliation.
- Ensure proper packaging and labeling of dispensed medicines.
- Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and organization of the pharmacy.
- Participate in internal and external audits and ensure audit readiness.
- Monitor and reduce medication errors through proper checks and controls.
- Provide guidance and training to junior pharmacy staff (for seniors).
- Handle patient queries and provide medication counseling when required.
- Ensure confidentiality of patient and prescription information.
- Adhere to health, safety, and regulatory standards at all times.
- Work efficiently in shifts and manage workload effectively.
- Stay updated with new drugs, policies, and pharmaceutical best practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams for smooth operations.
- Contribute to improving pharmacy efficiency and patient safety.
