Casualty Medical Officer

The Casualty Medical Officer will be responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and managing patients presenting to the emergency department. This requires quick decision-making, strong clinical expertise, and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Provide immediate medical care and stabilization to emergency and trauma patients.
• Perform rapid assessment, triage, and prioritization of patients based on severity.
• Diagnose and manage acute medical and surgical emergencies.
• Initiate appropriate treatment plans and life-saving interventions.
• Perform emergency procedures such as intubation, suturing, catheterization, and resuscitation.
• Handle medico-legal cases and ensure proper documentation as per guidelines.
• Coordinate with specialists and consultants for advanced patient care.
• Monitor patient condition and respond promptly to any deterioration.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as lab investigations and imaging.
• Maintain accurate and timely medical records and case documentation.
• Ensure compliance with emergency protocols, SOPs, and hospital policies.
• Follow infection control, patient safety, and hygiene standards.
• Communicate effectively with patients, attendants, and healthcare teams.
• Provide counseling and information to patients and families in critical situations.
• Manage emergency department workflow and ensure efficient patient flow.
• Participate in code blue and emergency response teams.
• Ensure availability and readiness of emergency equipment and medications.
• Work in rotational shifts including night duties and on-call responsibilities.
• Assist in audits, quality initiatives, and clinical governance activities.
• Stay updated with emergency medicine practices and protocols.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical medical practices.
• Support training and mentoring of junior staff if required.
• Handle high-pressure situations with professionalism and composure.
• Coordinate with ambulance services and referral centers when needed.
