Lab Technician

The Lab Technician is responsible for conducting a wide range of laboratory investigations, maintaining accuracy in testing procedures, and supporting clinicians with reliable diagnostic results. This requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and adherence to laboratory protocols in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests in areas such as hematology, biochemistry, microbiology, and pathology.
• Collect, label, and process patient samples including blood, urine, and other specimens.
• Ensure proper handling, storage, and transportation of samples to maintain integrity.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality control protocols during testing.
• Record and verify test results accurately before reporting.
• Ensure timely delivery of test reports to concerned departments and clinicians.
• Maintain proper documentation of test procedures, results, and quality control records.
• Adhere to infection control practices and laboratory safety guidelines.
• Dispose of biomedical waste as per regulatory standards and hospital policies.
• Monitor inventory of laboratory reagents, kits, and consumables and report shortages.
• Assist in internal and external quality assurance programs and audits.
• Coordinate with doctors and nursing staff for urgent and emergency test requirements.
• Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and coordinate with maintenance teams when required.
• Ensure cleanliness and organization of the laboratory workspace.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information and test results.
• Participate in training programs and stay updated with advancements in laboratory technology.
• Assist in preparation of reports, statistics, and laboratory data analysis.
• Follow all legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements related to laboratory services.
• Support sample collection in OPD, IPD, and emergency areas when needed.
• Ensure proper labeling and tracking of all samples to avoid errors.
• Handle high workload efficiently while maintaining accuracy and quality standards.
