Blood Bank Technician

The Blood Bank Technician plays a critical in managing blood and blood components, performing compatibility testing, and ensuring timely availability for patient care. This requires technical expertise, precision, and compliance with regulatory and transfusion medicine guidelines.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Perform blood grouping, cross-matching, and compatibility testing as per standard protocols.
• Screen donor blood for infectious diseases and ensure safety for transfusion.
• Assist in blood collection procedures, including donor screening and phlebotomy.
• Process whole blood into components such as packed cells, plasma, and platelets.
• Ensure proper labeling, storage, and inventory management of blood units and components.
• Monitor storage conditions including temperature control and equipment functioning.
• Maintain accurate records of blood collection, testing, issuance, and stock levels.
• Issue blood and blood components as per requisition and ensure proper documentation.
• Follow strict infection control, safety, and biomedical waste disposal protocols.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and blood bank standards.
• Conduct quality control checks on reagents, equipment, and procedures.
