Professor - Surgical Oncology

The Professor – Surgical Oncology will be responsible for leading academic teaching, cancer surgery services, multidisciplinary oncology care, research, and departmental development. This requires expertise in surgical management of solid tumors, cancer staging, oncologic procedures, postoperative care, and academic supervision. The candidate will mentor students and residents, perform complex cancer surgeries, participate in tumor boards, and contribute to high-quality, evidence-based cancer care.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Lead teaching and clinical training for medical students, residents, and surgical oncology trainees.
• Evaluate patients with suspected or confirmed cancer and determine surgical treatment suitability.
• Perform and supervise oncology-related surgeries, biopsies, tumor resections, and staging procedures.
• Conduct ward rounds, OPD consultations, case discussions, operative teaching, and academic sessions.
• Participate in tumor board meetings and multidisciplinary cancer treatment planning.
• Guide students and residents in research projects, dissertations, publications, and academic presentations.
• Review imaging, pathology, biopsy findings, tumor markers, and staging investigations for treatment planning.
• Coordinate with medical oncology, radiation oncology, radiology, pathology, anesthesia, and nursing teams.
• Explain surgical options, risks, benefits, outcomes, and postoperative care plans to patients and families.
• Ensure accurate documentation of clinical notes, operative records, consent forms, and discharge plans.
• Promote evidence-based cancer surgery, infection control, patient safety, and ethical clinical practice.
• Support palliative surgical care and symptom-relief procedures for advanced cancer cases when required.
• Participate in audits, morbidity reviews, quality improvement programs, and institutional committees.
• Organize or contribute to CME programs, oncology workshops, conferences, and academic activities.
• Strengthen surgical oncology services through clinical leadership, research contribution, and academic excellence.
