Consultant - Emergency

The Consultant – Emergency Medicine will be responsible for diagnosing, stabilizing, and managing critically ill and injured patients in the emergency department. This requires strong clinical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to make fast, high-stakes decisions in a dynamic environment.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Provide immediate assessment, triage, and management of patients in the emergency department.
• Diagnose and treat a wide range of acute medical, surgical, and trauma emergencies.
• Perform advanced life-saving procedures including airway management, intubation, CPR, defibrillation, and central line insertion.
• Manage critical conditions such as cardiac arrest, stroke, trauma, sepsis, respiratory failure, and shock.
• Ensure rapid stabilization and appropriate disposition of emergency patients.
• Interpret diagnostic tests including ECG, blood investigations, and imaging studies.
• Coordinate with specialists and other departments for further management and admissions.
• Supervise emergency department workflow to ensure efficient patient flow and care delivery.
• Lead and manage code blue and resuscitation teams during critical situations.
• Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely clinical documentation of all emergency cases.
• Handle medico-legal cases with proper documentation and compliance.
• Ensure adherence to emergency protocols, hospital guidelines, and patient safety standards.
• Oversee trauma care and disaster management response activities.
• Supervise junior doctors, residents, and emergency staff in clinical duties.
• Ensure proper utilization and maintenance of emergency equipment and supplies.
• Communicate effectively with patients and families during critical situations.
• Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions and clinical audits.
• Maintain infection control practices and safety standards in the emergency department.
• Stay updated with advancements in emergency medicine and critical care protocols.
• Provide training and guidance to emergency department staff.
• Work in rotational shifts including nights, weekends, and on-call duties.
• Contribute to improving emergency care systems and patient outcomes.
