Job Description

The Consultant (Emergency Incharge) will be responsible for overseeing the emergency department, managing acute and life-threatening conditions, supervising emergency staff, and ensuring efficient patient flow. The requires strong clinical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to make quick, accurate decisions in high-pressure environments while maintaining patient safety and care standards.


Roles & Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the emergency department operations during assigned shifts.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat patients presenting with acute and critical conditions.
  • Provide immediate medical care and stabilization for trauma and emergency cases.
  • Supervise and guide RMOs, nurses, and emergency staff.
  • Ensure adherence to emergency protocols, triage systems, and clinical guidelines.
  • Coordinate with specialists for referrals and advanced patient management.
  • Monitor patient flow and ensure timely admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Respond to Code Blue and other emergency alerts promptly.
  • Interpret diagnostic tests, imaging, and lab reports for quick decision-making.
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation.
  • Ensure availability and proper functioning of emergency equipment and supplies.
  • Coordinate with ambulance services and pre-hospital care teams.
  • Handle medico-legal cases and ensure proper documentation and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, NABH standards, and safety protocols.
  • Train and mentor emergency department staff on best practices and protocols.
  • Address patient and attendant concerns with professionalism and empathy.
  • Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement, and emergency drills.
  • Ensure infection control practices and patient safety measures are followed.
  • Manage critical incidents and escalate issues to senior management when required.
  • Stay updated with advancements in emergency medicine and trauma care.
