Consultant - Gastroenterology

The Consultant – Gastroenterology will be responsible for managing complex gastrointestinal cases, performing advanced endoscopic procedures, and guiding multidisciplinary care. This requires strong clinical expertise, procedural skills, and the ability to deliver comprehensive patient-centered care in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and manage a wide range of gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary diseases.
• Conduct detailed patient evaluations including history, physical examination, and clinical assessment.
• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures such as upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, and ERCP (as applicable).
• Manage acute and chronic conditions including GI bleeding, liver disease, pancreatitis, and inflammatory bowel disease.
• Interpret diagnostic investigations including endoscopy findings, imaging, and laboratory reports.
• Develop individualized treatment plans based on evidence-based gastroenterology practices.
• Manage emergency gastrointestinal cases requiring immediate intervention.
• Collaborate with surgeons, radiologists, oncologists, and intensivists for multidisciplinary care.
• Supervise inpatient care of gastroenterology patients and ensure optimal clinical outcomes.
• Provide pre- and post-procedure care for endoscopic and interventional patients.
• Educate patients and families regarding disease conditions, treatment options, and lifestyle modifications.
• Maintain accurate and detailed medical records and procedural documentation.
• Participate in ward rounds, OPD consultations, and specialist clinics.
• Ensure adherence to infection control protocols and procedural safety standards.
• Guide and mentor junior doctors, residents, and medical staff.
• Participate in clinical audits, case discussions, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Handle medico-legal documentation and ensure compliance with hospital policies.
• Stay updated with advancements in gastroenterology and endoscopic techniques.
• Contribute to developing departmental protocols and clinical guidelines.
