Consultant - Nephrology

The Consultant – Nephrology will be responsible for diagnosing and managing a wide range of kidney disorders, overseeing dialysis services, and providing comprehensive renal care. This requires strong clinical expertise, decision-making skills, and the ability to manage complex renal cases in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and manage acute and chronic kidney diseases, including renal failure and glomerular disorders.
• Conduct detailed patient evaluations including history taking, physical examination, and clinical assessment.
• Manage patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), acute kidney injury (AKI), and end-stage renal disease (ESRD).
• Oversee hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis services and ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Manage emergency renal conditions such as electrolyte imbalances, fluid overload, and hypertensive crises.
• Interpret diagnostic investigations including renal function tests, urine analysis, imaging, and biopsy reports.
• Develop individualized treatment plans including medical management and renal replacement therapy.
• Perform and supervise procedures such as dialysis catheter insertion and kidney biopsies (as applicable).
• Provide pre-dialysis and post-dialysis patient care and monitoring.
• Collaborate with intensivists, urologists, and other specialists for multidisciplinary renal care.
• Supervise inpatient care of nephrology patients and ensure continuity of treatment.
• Conduct outpatient clinics for CKD, dialysis follow-ups, and transplant evaluations.
• Educate patients and families regarding kidney disease management, dialysis care, and lifestyle modifications.
• Maintain accurate and detailed medical records and clinical documentation.
• Participate in ward rounds, case discussions, and multidisciplinary meetings.
• Ensure adherence to infection control protocols, especially in dialysis units.
• Mentor and guide junior doctors, residents, and dialysis staff.
• Handle medico-legal documentation and ensure compliance with hospital policies.
• Stay updated with advancements in nephrology, dialysis technology, and transplant care.
• Participate in clinical audits, research, and academic activities.
• Contribute to developing nephrology protocols and treatment guidelines.
• Ensure high standards of patient safety, ethical practice, and clinical excellence.
• Coordinate with hospital administration for efficient nephrology service delivery.
• Work towards improving patient outcomes and quality of renal care services.
