Job Description

Resident - Neuro Surgery is responsible for assisting neurosurgeons in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with neurological and neurosurgical conditions. The involves supporting surgical procedures, monitoring patient progress, handling emergency cases, maintaining clinical documentation, and ensuring continuous patient care in coordination with senior consultants and healthcare teams.


Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Assist neurosurgeons during neurosurgical procedures and emergency interventions.
  • Conduct patient assessments, neurological examinations, and clinical evaluations.
  • Monitor pre-operative and post-operative neurosurgical patients regularly.
  • Participate in ward rounds with consultants and discuss patient management plans.
  • Maintain accurate patient records including admission notes, progress notes, operative details, and discharge summaries.
  • Follow up on laboratory investigations, imaging reports, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Provide immediate medical attention in neurological emergencies and trauma cases.
  • Coordinate with ICU, OT, radiology, and other departments for patient care requirements.
  • Monitor critically ill neuro patients and report clinical changes promptly to senior consultants.
  • Assist in preparing patients for surgery and ensure proper pre-operative documentation.
  • Ensure timely execution of treatment plans, medication orders, and post-surgical care instructions.
  • Support patient counseling and communicate treatment updates to patient families when required.
  • Follow hospital clinical protocols, infection control practices, and patient safety guidelines.
  • Participate in academic discussions, case presentations, seminars, and neurosurgery training activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information and medical records.
  • Assist in handling emergency neurosurgical procedures during on-call duties.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams for comprehensive patient management.
  • Participate in audits, quality improvement programs, and departmental meetings.
  • Stay updated with advancements in neurosurgery, neurological care, and surgical techniques.
  • Maintain professionalism, ethical medical practices, and compassionate patient care at all times.
  • Perform additional clinical and surgical responsibilities assigned by senior neurosurgeons or management.
