Duty Medical Officer

The Duty Medical Officer will be responsible for providing clinical care, patient assessment, emergency response, and medical support during assigned duty hours. This requires MBBS qualification, TNMC registration, sound clinical judgment, and the ability to coordinate with consultants, nurses, and hospital departments. The candidate will manage OPD, inpatient, and emergency cases while ensuring accurate documentation, ethical care, patient safety, and timely medical intervention.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Conduct patient examinations, clinical assessments, and initial medical evaluations during duty hours.
• Provide immediate medical care for emergency, OPD, and admitted patients as per hospital protocols.
• Assist consultants in patient management, ward rounds, treatment planning, and follow-up care.
• Monitor patient vitals, clinical condition, treatment response, and ongoing medical requirements.
• Prescribe medicines, investigations, and supportive care within approved clinical authority.
• Identify critical changes in patient condition and escalate promptly to senior consultants.
• Coordinate with nursing, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, and specialist teams for patient care.
• Maintain accurate case sheets, progress notes, treatment charts, and discharge-related documentation.
• Explain treatment plans, clinical updates, and care instructions to patients and attendants.
• Attend emergency calls, code situations, and urgent clinical requirements professionally.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection control practices, and patient safety standards.
• Support admission, transfer, referral, and discharge processes when clinically required.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information and follow ethical medical practices.
• Complete medico-legal documentation and reporting requirements when applicable.
• Contribute to smooth clinical workflow, quality care, and improved patient outcomes.
