The Blood Bank Technician will be responsible for blood collection support, component handling, sample testing, crossmatching, storage monitoring, documentation, and blood issue coordination. This requires DMLT or B.Sc MLT qualification, blood bank workflow knowledge, accuracy, infection control awareness, and compliance with transfusion safety standards. The candidate will support safe and timely blood bank services.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Receive and process blood samples for grouping, typing, screening, and crossmatching.
- Support blood collection, component preparation, storage, and issue procedures.
- Perform blood grouping, compatibility testing, and routine blood bank investigations.
- Maintain donor, recipient, crossmatch, issue, and inventory records accurately.
- Monitor blood storage temperature, expiry dates, stock levels, and cold chain requirements.
- Verify patient identity, requisition forms, sample labels, and blood component details.
- Coordinate with doctors, nurses, laboratory, ICU, OT, and emergency teams for blood requirements.
- Follow transfusion safety, infection control, biosafety, and biomedical waste protocols.
- Report critical issues, incompatibility, shortages, or adverse reaction information to seniors.
- Maintain equipment logs, QC records, calibration records, and documentation.
- Support audits, quality checks, and blood bank compliance activities.
- Ensure safe, accurate, and timely blood bank service delivery.
