Staff Nurse - OT

Staff Nurse - OT is responsible for assisting in operation theatre procedures, preparing patients for surgery, maintaining sterile environments, and supporting doctors during surgical care. The requires knowledge of OT workflow, surgical instruments, sterilization practices, patient safety, infection prevention, and perioperative nursing. The candidate should work efficiently with surgeons, anesthetists, technicians, and nursing teams to ensure smooth OT operations.

Role & Responsibilities

• Prepare patients physically and emotionally before surgical procedures.
• Arrange OT instruments, surgical trays, sterile linen, and required consumables.
• Assist doctors and senior nurses during surgical procedures as per OT protocols.
• Maintain cleanliness, sterility, and infection prevention standards in the operation theatre.
• Check equipment readiness including OT table, lights, suction, monitors, and emergency support.
• Help in patient positioning, draping, and safe transfer to and from OT.
• Follow pre-operative and post-operative nursing checklists accurately.
• Maintain proper count of instruments, swabs, needles, and surgical materials.
• Coordinate with CSSD for sterilization and availability of surgical instruments.
• Record nursing notes, OT procedure details, and patient-related documentation.
• Monitor patient safety during pre-operative and immediate post-operative care.
• Dispose biomedical waste according to hospital infection control guidelines.
• Inform senior staff about equipment failure, patient issues, or urgent OT requirements.
• Maintain professional communication with surgeons, anesthetists, and nursing staff.
• Follow hospital policies, nursing standards, and patient confidentiality guidelines.
