Senior Staff Nurse - OT

Senior Staff Nurse - OT is responsible for providing advanced perioperative nursing care, supporting surgical teams, maintaining operation theatre readiness, and ensuring patient safety before, during, and after procedures. The requires strong OT experience, knowledge of aseptic techniques, surgical instruments, infection control, emergency response, and coordination with surgeons, anesthetists, and healthcare staff to deliver smooth and safe surgical outcomes.

Role & Responsibilities

• Assist surgeons and anesthetists during operative procedures with proper OT nursing support.
• Prepare operation theatre, surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies before surgery.
• Maintain strict aseptic technique and infection control standards inside the OT.
• Verify patient identity, consent, procedure details, and pre-operative checklist before surgery.
• Monitor patient condition and support safe transfer before and after surgical procedures.
• Supervise junior OT nurses and guide them in proper OT protocols and practices.
• Ensure availability and functionality of OT equipment, emergency drugs, and consumables.
• Handle surgical instruments carefully and maintain correct instrument counts with the team.
• Coordinate with CSSD for sterilized instruments, linen, and OT material requirements.
• Support documentation of surgical procedures, nursing notes, OT records, and checklists.
• Respond quickly to intraoperative emergencies and assist the medical team as required.
• Follow hospital policies related to biomedical waste, safety, hygiene, and patient care.
• Maintain confidentiality, dignity, and comfort of patients throughout the surgical journey.
• Report equipment issues, infection risks, incidents, or patient concerns to senior authorities.
• Participate in OT audits, training programs, quality improvement, and nursing compliance activities.
