CSSD Technician

The CSSD Technician plays a critical in preventing hospital-acquired infections by ensuring all surgical instruments and medical equipment are properly cleaned, sterilized, and ready for use. This involves operating sterilization equipment, maintaining accurate records, and coordinating with OT and other departments to ensure seamless workflow.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Perform decontamination of used surgical instruments and medical equipment using washers, ultrasonic cleaners, and manual cleaning methods.
• Ensure proper segregation and handling of contaminated instruments as per infection control protocols.
• Operate sterilization equipment such as autoclaves, ETO, and plasma sterilizers following standard safety procedures.
• Monitor sterilization cycles, temperature, pressure, and duration to ensure effectiveness.
• Inspect instruments for cleanliness, damage, and functionality before sterilization.
• Assemble and package instruments and surgical sets according to procedure requirements.
• Label and track instrument sets to ensure properentification and traceability.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of sterilization processes, logs, and documentation.
• Ensure compliance with infection control guidelines and hospital policies at all times.
• Store sterile instruments in designated areas under appropriate conditions to maintain sterility.
• Distribute sterile supplies to operation theatres, wards, and other departments in a timely manner.
• Coordinate closely with OT staff, nursing teams, and other departments for instrument requirements.
• Monitor inventory of surgical instruments, linen, and consumables and ensure timely replenishment.
• entify and report damaged or malfunctioning instruments for repair or replacement.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the CSSD department and work areas.
• Follow biomedical waste management protocols for safe disposal of contaminated materials.
• Participate in quality assurance programs, audits, and accreditation processes.
• Ensure adherence to safety protocols while handling equipment and chemicals.
• Assist in emergency situations by ensuring availability of sterilized instruments.
• Stay updated with advancements in sterilization techniques and infection control practices.
• Support training of new staff and adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all aspects of work.
• Ensure efficient turnaround time for instrument processing to support clinical operations.
• Contribute to maintaining a safe, sterile, and compliant healthcare environment.
