Staff Nurse CTVS - CCU

The Staff Nurse – CTVS CCU is responsible for delivering specialized nursing care to critically ill cardiac patients, including those requiring ventilatory support, invasive monitoring, and advanced cardiac interventions. This demands strong clinical expertise in cardiac critical care, the ability to respond quickly to emergencies, and close coordination with multidisciplinary teams.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Provide continuous and comprehensive monitoring of patients’ vital signs, hemodynamic parameters (CVP, arterial lines, pulmonary artery pressures), and ECG rhythms.
• Monitor and manage ventilator settings, oxygen therapy, chest drains, urine output, and cardiac device functions such as pacemakers.
• Administer high-alert cardiac medications including inotropes, vasopressors, antiarrhythmics, anticoagulants, sedatives, and insulin infusions with precision.
• Titrate medications based on patient response and clinical parameters under medical guidance.
• Identify and respond promptly to life-threatening complications such as arrhythmias, low cardiac output, bleeding, respiratory distress, and cardiac tamponade.
• Assist in advanced procedures including central line management, arterial line care, intubation support, and IABP (Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump) monitoring.
• Provide post-operative care to CTVS patients including pain management, wound care, and early mobilization support.
• Maintain strict aseptic techniques and infection control practices in critical care settings.
• Collaborate closely with cardiac surgeons, intensivists, perfusionists, and multidisciplinary teams for patient care planning and execution.
• Maintain accurate, real-time documentation of patient status, interventions, medication administration, and progress notes.
• Educate patients and their families regarding post-operative care, medications, lifestyle changes, and recovery expectations.
• Ensure proper functioning and handling of critical care equipment such as ventilators, monitors, infusion pumps, and defibrillators.
• Participate actively in code blue situations and assist in resuscitation procedures.
• Assist during patient transfer to and from ICU, ensuring continuity and safety of care.
• Monitor laboratory values and diagnostic reports to support clinical decision-making.
• Ensure proper biomedical waste management and adherence to safety protocols.
• Maintain cleanliness and readiness of the CCU environment and equipment.
• Supervise and guide junior nursing staff and support personnel when required.
• Participate in quality improvement programs, audits, and accreditation processes.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, clinical guidelines, and regulatory standards.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams in high-pressure situations.
• Work in rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and emergency duties.
• Maintain patient confidentiality, dignity, and professional conduct at all times.
