Job Description
Radiation Oncologist – Consultant is responsible for diagnosing, evaluating, and treating patients with cancer using advanced radiation therapy techniques. The involves developing individualized radiation treatment plans, supervising radiation therapy procedures, monitoring patient progress, and ensuring safe and effective cancer care. The consultant will work closely with multidisciplinary oncology teams to deliver high-quality treatment while maintaining patient safety, comfort, and clinical excellence.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Evaluate, diagnose, and assess cancer patients for radiation therapy treatment.
- Review patient medical histories, pathology reports, imaging studies, and diagnostic investigations.
- Develop individualized radiation treatment plans based on patient condition and clinical requirements.
- Determine appropriate radiation dosage, treatment techniques, and schedules for cancer management.
- Supervise and monitor radiation therapy administration to ensure accurate treatment delivery.
- Coordinate with medical physicists, radiation therapists, surgeons, and medical oncologists for comprehensive patient care.
- Monitor patient response to radiation therapy and modify treatment plans when required.
- Manage radiation-related side effects, treatment complications, and symptom control effectively.
- Counsel patients and families regarding treatment procedures, expected outcomes, risks, and side effects.
- Educate patients on radiation safety precautions and post-treatment care instructions.
- Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards, case discussions, and oncology review meetings.
- Ensure compliance with radiation safety protocols, quality standards, and hospital guidelines.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation, treatment records, and patient progress notes.
- Supervise radiation therapy procedures and ensure adherence to established oncology protocols.
- Participate in quality assurance programs related to radiation oncology services.
- Support research activities, clinical studies, and evidence-based oncology practices.
- Stay updated with advancements, innovations, and new technologies in radiation oncology.
- Mentor and guide junior doctors, residents, technologists, and oncology staff.
- Participate in academic programs, CME activities, conferences, and departmental training sessions.
- Coordinate with healthcare teams to ensure continuity and quality of patient care.
- Maintain patient confidentiality, ethical standards, and professional conduct at all times.
- Assist in departmental planning, operational improvements, and oncology service development initiatives.
- Handle emergency oncology cases and provide timely medical intervention when necessary.
- Ensure patient-centered care with a focus on safety, compassion, and treatment effectiveness.
