The Optometrist will be responsible for performing vision testing, refraction, preliminary eye examination, diagnostic support, and patient counselling at SMVS Swaminarayan Hospital, Gandhinagar. This requires B.Optom or M.Optom qualification with 1–2 years of experience, good knowledge of ophthalmic instruments, clinical accuracy, and patient-friendly communication. The candidate will support ophthalmologists in diagnosis, treatment planning, and smooth OPD workflow.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform visual acuity testing, refraction, and basic eye examination for patients.
- Conduct preliminary ophthalmic screening before ophthalmologist consultation.
- Operate ophthalmic instruments such as autorefractometer, slit lamp, tonometer, lensometer, and keratometer.
- Assist ophthalmologists in cataract, retina, glaucoma, cornea, and refractive case workups.
- Record patient findings accurately in clinical forms, EMR, or hospital software.
- Support spectacle prescription, contact lens evaluation, and optical counselling.
- Explain eye test procedures to patients and ensure comfort during examination.
- Identify abnormal findings and inform the ophthalmologist promptly.
- Coordinate with doctors, counsellors, optical staff, front office, and nursing teams.
- Maintain cleanliness, calibration support, and readiness of optometry equipment.
- Follow infection control, patient safety, and eye care protocols.
- Support OPD flow by managing patient movement between testing and consultation areas.
- Educate patients on basic eye care, spectacle usage, lens care, and follow-up instructions.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient records and clinical findings.
- Deliver accurate, ethical, and patient-centered optometry services.
