Pharmacist

The Pharmacist will play a critical in hospital/pharmacy operations by reviewing prescriptions, dispensing medications, managing drug inventory, and counseling patients. This requires strong knowledge of pharmacology, attention to detail, and adherence to statutory regulations. The candidate must ensure accuracy in dispensing, maintain proper storage conditions, and support clinical teams with medication-related guidance, all while upholding patient safety and confidentiality.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Review and validate prescriptions for correctness, dosage, interactions, and contraindications.
• Dispense medications accurately in accordance with prescriptions and SOPs.
• Provide patient counseling on dosage, administration, side effects, and precautions.
• Ensure adherence to medication safety standards and the “10 Rights” of drug administration.
• Maintain optimal storage conditions for medicines (temperature, humidity, cold chain where applicable).
• Manage inventory using FIFO/FEFO; track expiries and minimize wastage.
• Handle controlled/narcotic drugs as per legal requirements; maintain registers and audit trails.
• Prepare purchase orders and coordinate with vendors for timely procurement.
• Verify inward supplies, process GRNs, and reconcile discrepancies.
• Manage returns of expired/damaged/near-expiry items as per policy.
• Maintain accurate records of dispensing, billing, and stock movements in HIS/ERP.
• Coordinate with doctors and nursing staff for clarifications and urgent medication needs.
• Ensure proper labeling, packaging, and patient-specific dispensing.
• Monitor and report adverse drug reactions (ADR) as per pharmacovigilance protocols.
• Support emergency services by ensuring availability of crash cart and critical drugs.
• Participate in stock audits, cycle counts, and inventory reconciliation.
• Maintain cleanliness, organization, and infection control within the pharmacy.
• Ensure compliance with NABH, Drugs & Cosmetics Act, and hospital policies.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient and prescription information.
• Use pharmacy software/ERP for data entry, reporting, and analytics.
• Handle patient queries and provide professional guidance.
• Coordinate with billing/accounts for accurate charge capture and reconciliation.
• Support clinical initiatives such as antibiotic stewardship and formulary management.
• Train and guide junior staff and interns when required.
• Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and SOP updates.
• Stay updated with new drugs, guidelines, and best practices.
• Work in rotational shifts, including nights and emergencies.
• Ensure proper biomedical waste disposal as per regulations.
• Maintain discipline, punctuality, and professional conduct.
• Contribute to improving medication safety, operational efficiency, and patient satisfaction.
