OT Technician

KEM Hospital is seeking a skilled and dedicated OT Technician to support surgical procedures by ensuring proper preparation, handling, maintenance, and sterilization of operation theatre instruments and equipment. The involves assisting surgical teams, maintaining OT readiness, ensuring equipment functionality, and strictly following infection control and safety protocols to ensure smooth and safe surgical operations.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform cleaning, oiling, and maintenance of laparoscopic instrument sets as per protocol.
• Prepare and arrange trays of laparoscopic instruments and ensure readiness for autoclaving.
• Prepare ETO (Ethylene Oxide) sterilization packs as per OT standards.
• Receive daily handover from Sister-in-Charge in recovery and ensure proper shift transition.
• Check and ensure functionality of equipment such as pulse oximeter, syringe pumps, telescopes, uro instruments, light source, etc.
• entify and report faulty instruments or equipment and coordinate repairs with Biomedical/Maintenance department.
• Ensure all OT cables, probes, and devices are properly checked and fully charged before procedures.
• Verify working condition of critical machines such as defibrillator, ECG monitor, and other OT equipment.
• Clean, dust, and prepare monitors, C-Arm, ENT trolley, neuro trolley, uro cupboard, cautery machine, baby trolley, Ambu bag, and related equipment before surgery.
• Set up and clean surgical microscope as per surgical requirements.
• Operate, clean, and transfer C-Arm machine between OTs and ensure proper connection and setup.
• Assist surgeons and nursing staff during surgical procedures as required.
• Ensure preventive checks of all essential OT equipment including light source, TV trolley, camera system, OT table parts, suction machine, and wire connections.
• Maintain strict sterilization and infection control practices during all OT activities.
• Clean and disinfect all instruments and OT equipment after completion of surgical procedures.
• Count and verify all surgical instruments post-operation and record entries in registers with proper signatures.
• Coordinate with Biomedical department for preventive maintenance and technical support.
• Ensure OT readiness at all times for emergency and scheduled surgeries.
• Maintain proper documentation of equipment usage, sterilization cycles, and instrument tracking.
• Support OT nursing staff and doctors during surgical procedures.
• Ensure compliance with hospital OT protocols, safety standards, and infection control guidelines.
• Report any discrepancies, damages, or missing instruments immediately to senior staff.
• Assist in inventory management of OT consumables and surgical supplies.
• Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and organization of the operation theatre environment.
• Perform any additional duties assigned by OT Matron, HOD, or hospital management as required.
