Job Description
The Lab Technician – Histopathology will be responsible for handling tissue samples, preparing slides, and assisting pathologists in the diagnosis of diseases. The involves performing laboratory procedures such as fixation, embedding, sectioning, and staining while ensuring accuracy and quality. The candidate will maintain laboratory equipment, follow safety protocols, and ensure proper documentation and reporting in compliance with clinical standards.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Receive, label, and process tissue specimens accurately.
- Perform fixation, dehydration, embedding, and microtomy procedures.
- Prepare high-quality tissue sections and slides for microscopic examination.
- Conduct routine and special staining techniques (e.g., H&E, special stains).
- Assist pathologists in slide preparation and diagnostic procedures.
- Ensure proper handling and preservation of biopsy and surgical specimens.
- Maintain and operate laboratory equipment such as microtomes, tissue processors, and staining units.
- Monitor quality of slides and ensure accuracy in laboratory processes.
- Maintain detailed records of samples, tests, and reports.
- Follow strict laboratory safety, infection control, and biomedical waste disposal protocols.
- Ensure proper storage and archiving of tissue blocks and slides.
- Coordinate with clinicians and other departments for timely processing of samples.
- Identify and report discrepancies or issues in specimens or results.
- Participate in quality control and quality assurance programs.
- Assist in implementing standard operating procedures (SOPs) in the lab.
- Maintain inventory of laboratory reagents, chemicals, and consumables.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Support research and academic activities when required.
- Stay updated with advancements in histopathology techniques and laboratory practices.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional and ethical standards at all times.
