Senior Staff Nurse - Shift In-Charge

The Senior Staff Nurse - Shift In-Charge will be responsible for managing nursing activities during assigned shifts, supervising staff nurses, monitoring patient care, ensuring proper documentation, and supporting emergency response. This requires clinical nursing expertise, leadership skills, duty coordination, patient safety awareness, and strong communication with doctors, patients, relatives, and hospital teams.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Supervise nursing activities and patient care during assigned shift duties.
• Allocate patient responsibilities and duties to staff nurses as per workload.
• Monitor patient vitals, medication administration, clinical changes, and nursing care quality.
• Ensure proper shift handover, nursing notes, medication charts, and patient documentation.
• Assist doctors during rounds, procedures, emergency care, and patient assessment.
• Guide junior nurses in patient care, documentation, infection control, and safety practices.
• Coordinate with doctors, nursing in-charge, pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, and administration teams.
• Respond promptly to emergency situations, code calls, and patient deterioration.
• Ensure availability of emergency trolley, medicines, consumables, and nursing equipment.
• Maintain discipline, grooming, punctuality, and professional conduct among shift staff.
• Communicate patient updates to doctors and senior nursing team as per hospital protocol.
• Handle patient and attendant concerns politely and escalate serious issues when required.
• Follow infection control, biomedical waste, hand hygiene, and patient safety standards.
• Prepare shift reports, incident notes, handover summaries, and pending task updates.
• Ensure smooth, safe, and compassionate nursing care throughout the assigned shift.
