OT Technician

The OT Technician plays a crucial in ensuring the readiness of the operation theatre, assisting surgeons and anesthetists during procedures, and maintaining sterile conditions. This requires technical expertise, precision, and the ability to work efficiently in a high-pressure surgical environment.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Prepare and set up operation theatres prior to surgeries, ensuring all instruments and equipment are ready.
• Sterilize surgical instruments and maintain strict aseptic conditions in the OT.
• Assist surgeons, anesthetists, and nursing staff during surgical procedures.
• Arrange and manage surgical instruments as per procedure requirements.
• Check and ensure proper functioning of OT equipment such as anesthesia machines, monitors, suction units, and surgical lights.
• Assist in patient preparation including positioning, draping, and transfer to and from the OT.
• Maintain strict adherence to infection control protocols and sterilization standards.
• Monitor cleanliness and hygiene of the operation theatre environment.
• Conduct instrument, sponge, and needle counts before, during, and after procedures.
• Dispose of biomedical waste as per hospital guidelines and regulatory standards.
• Coordinate with CSSD for sterilization and timely availability of surgical sets.
• Maintain inventory of surgical instruments, consumables, and supplies.
• Assist in emergency and trauma surgeries with quick response and preparedness.
• Ensure proper documentation related to OT procedures and equipment usage.
• Follow safety protocols while handling sharp instruments and hazardous materials.
• Coordinate with biomedical engineering team for equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Provide timely assistance to surgeons by handing over required instruments during procedures.
• Ensure proper storage and handling of sterile instruments.
• Support scheduling and preparation for planned and emergency surgeries.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure respectful handling at all times.
• Participate in infection control programs and quality improvement initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and accreditation requirements.
• Maintain calmness, focus, and efficiency during high-pressure situations.
• Assist in training junior staff and new team members when required.
• Contribute to maintaining high standards of surgical care and patient safety.
