The Staff Nurse - BMT will be responsible for providing specialized nursing care to bone marrow transplant patients, including infection prevention, chemotherapy support, central line care, patient monitoring, medication administration, and strict documentation. This requires GNM or B.Sc Nursing qualification, clinical alertness, infection control discipline, and ability to work in a high-acuity specialty care environment.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care to BMT patients as per transplant unit protocols.
- Monitor vitals, intake-output, symptoms, treatment response, and clinical changes.
- Administer prescribed medicines, IV fluids, blood products, chemotherapy support, and supportive care.
- Maintain strict infection control, isolation protocols, PPE usage, and hand hygiene practices.
- Assist in central line care, sample collection, transfusion support, and procedure preparation.
- Monitor for fever, bleeding, infection signs, graft-related complications, or adverse reactions.
- Maintain detailed nursing notes, medication charts, intake-output records, and handover documentation.
- Coordinate with hematologists, consultants, pharmacy, laboratory, blood bank, and ICU teams.
- Educate patients and relatives about hygiene, diet, isolation precautions, and follow-up care.
- Support emergency response and escalate critical changes immediately.
- Maintain cleanliness, equipment readiness, and safety in BMT areas.
- Deliver compassionate, careful, and specialty-focused nursing care.
