May Day

May Day, also known as International Workers' Day or Labor Day, is a holiday that is celebrated annually on May 1st. It is a day to honor the contributions and achievements of workers around the world, and to promote workers' rights and labor movements.

The origins of May Day can be traced back to the late 19th century, when labor movements in the United States and Europe were advocating for better working conditions and an eight-hour workday. In 1884, the Federation of Organized Trades and Labor Unions in the United States and Canada declared that, beginning on May 1, 1886, workers would only work eight hours a day. On May 1, 1886, a massive general strike was held in the United States, involving hundreds of thousands of workers, to demand the eight-hour workday.

In India, May Day is commonly referred to as "International Workers' Day" or "Labour Day". It is a public holiday in some states and is observed on May 1st each year. The day is typically marked by labor unions, trade associations, and workers' organizations who organize rallies, marches, and other events to promote workers' rights and to demand better wages and working conditions.
